Treats from the Olympic Peninsula

I keep kicking myself because I waited until about nine months ago to care about exploring my own backyard (again). As I have, I keep realizing that I've been to all these places before -- with my Mom and Dad or the Boy Scouts -- and looked at things differently. Nowadays, I see things in …

Swallow(ing) Pride

At Spencer Island, an estuary in Everett, Wash., about 20 miles north of Seattle, I walked in, looking as usual for raptors. I eventually did spy an Osprey, but after being distracted for 2 1/2 hours by Tree Swallows. I usually take these birds for granted because they're using flitting around at warp speed, chasing …

Sparrow on a stick for #WildlifeWednesday. Soaring into the weekend on #FlybyFriday like ... It's a bird, it's a plane. It's #WildlifeWednesday. A #FoxyFriday cuteness alert! 🦊 We have done an important, essential thing at @seattleaudubon this week: we've gone down the path of removing "Audubon" from our name. Our namesake, John James Audubon, was an enslaver, anti-abolitionist, and purveyor of white-supremacist thinking and actions. We are not trying to erase him, because his art was a contribution people treasure, but we are saying that his name no longer fits what we want to be today and in the future -- which is inclusive, equitable, and antiracist. A song for #WildlifeWednesday. You name one ... Hello! Attention, please: Sensing some fox fatigue in the viewership. #FoxyFriday will resume next week. Another #WildlifeWednesday for looking back. Kit at play on #FoxyFriday 🦊 May we all be as adept at entertaining ourselves!
